#BookReview1: Si by Bob Ong

Before continuing with this review, I suggest you should read why I don’t rate books post.

Si by Bob Ong is a love story about two people who are continuously falling in love through different ways at all times of their lives. Even if they’re old, they do not forget the love they have for each other. They remained the same throughout their living years despite of the life’s challenges faced them. This book has proved the possibility of an everlasting love started by love at first sight.

Romance and unexpected thrill of suspense. Why? Read the book 🙂

…to people who wants to fall in love, know how true love feels like, determine what it means to have the right love at the right time and to people who already found the ultimate love of their lives.

PS: If you already have someone you love, I suggest to do a read-a-long with this book. You’ll get the best out of this book if you have somebody to read it along with you.

I personally chose SI for my first book review because it has not left me since the day we finished reading it. (Yes. WE. My boyfriend and I read it together.) So far, it is the best love novel that I have ever read. No exaggeration here because it is true. Compare to other love stories, this book showed how the love story goes after the girl said yes to a man or after they have confessed their love for each other. This is one main thing that I always trying to find in love stories because commonly, after the supposed to be “happily-ever-after” the story already ended there. This story is practical in a sense that you can get the general idea of what to expect when you decided to grow old with someone you really love. It showed that love, is a decision made by you not by faith.

The numbers at the top of the page represents chapters and the protagonist’s age. Yes, AGE. As you read through the book, you can notice that the book makes you a little bit startled and you have to keep up with the confusing story line because it is tracked backwards. You have to remember details like, who is “Aling Minyang” and why is Veronica is in not in good terms with her before. You have to work your memory in reading this book.

The climax rose and fell throughout the chapters but when I reached the chapter 0, it raised my adrenaline. Here’s my reactions to every chapter of the book.

As you can see in the climax tree, the highest point of the book is on the last chapter or age zero. Bakit?

First theory:

Hindi talaga nabuhay ang bida.

Kung nabasa niyo na, at kung i-aanalyze niyo ang pag ulan ng snow sa mga lugar sa Pilipinas, Bob Ong already gave clues tungkol sa pagiging hindi totoo ng storya. Kasi ang bida, ay pina-abort at hindi talaga nabuhay. Dahil isa siyang produkto ng bawal na pagmamahalan.

Yes hindi talaga siya toto, pero fiction within a fiction? Kakaiba. Kaya pala may nyebe, kaya pala pabalikatad kasi pinakita niya lang eh ang mga posibilidad. Parang pelikula sa loob ng libro. That leads me to my…

Second theory:

“SI” ang pangalan ng bida, di ba pag nagpapakilala tayo ang sinasabi natin, “Ako ay si ______”. Since pina-abort siya. I’m guessing sa third trimester siya pinalaglag. Kaya hanggang SI lang. Hindi nakumpleto. (Basahing maigi ang huling paragraph) 🙂

Kung titignan at babasahin natin, para siyang love story. Pero kung mas iintindihin pa natin, isa itong kwento tungkol sa posibilidad ng buhay ng mga batang pinalaglag. Buhay na maari nilang tahakin kung tinuloy ng kanilang mga ina ang kanilang buhay.

The author also reflected in this book the different kinds of right and wrong relationships. Mga taong tama ang taong minahal, mga taong mali ang minahal, at mga taong kahit alam na ang mali, itinuloy pa din nila. The book also reflected the possible outcomes of right and wrong decisions when it comes to love. Even the ending itself, unveiled another story not written in the book. When you read this, you will have the two sides of the coin or should I say, two faces of the story. Decisions when it comes to love can affect everyone’s lifetime.

That also brings me to my last point, maybe, the author wants to point out that this kind of love never existed reflected through the impossibility of the book’s idea.
